Rain, Rain, go away...

Today was another day that started with buckets of rain.  We all gathered in the dining room to wait out the storm.  The rain died down and sounded like it was stopping after an hour, so everyone decided to attempt going out into the forest. By this time my team was already an hour and a half behind schedule. Once in the field we still had hopes that it was going to clear up. We went to recheck some plants and found that some of them had been smashed in a tree fall that we had heard in the middle of the night two days ago. The way you can tell it is a recent tree fall is that everything is still alive and very green. Our plant that was our main goal survived only by ten feet, or three meters. After the checking that plant we continued to march through the rain. Our second goal of the day was to do the middle of one of the longest trails. We only made it to the start point of our goal when it was lunch time (which was about a half hour later than our usual lunch time). It was still raining. We had been out all morning by this time and had only found 5 herbivores when usually we are around 16. We decided with the help of continuous thunder that we would go home after lunch after we did one last plant. This last plant was of course far off trail through the wet plants. It was worth it to do that plant though. We got 12 herbivores from that one plant and a good chemistry sample. That one plant made the whole day feel very productive even though we spent most of it walking through sheets of rain. I stayed mostly dry with my jacket and umbrella, my feet and ankles did get soaked. The shower was very cold when I got back, felt nice but I froze! Fortunately, the lab work went really fast today. We were finished with an hour until dinner, so we went over a science power point that discusses the Inga project. Dinner was okay, the talking after was enjoyable. I was able to "schedule" a float for my team and learn where some pocket monkeys live that we can visit easily. It has continued to rain still. This constant raining is very unusual, I am told, for this time of the year. It is also causing it to be colder as well which I like better than the heat. Rain or shine I think we will go out everyday even if it is raining because I have a week and a day left until I leave. We are almost in scramble mode to get everything done. I am not sure we will, but I will be trying my hardest to get it all done and completed.
