Today I had a slow start because I ended up going to bed
around 12:45, about an hour later than I had planned due to late night talking. Our whole team had a slow morning actually. We had to continue to check plants and checking plants takes
a long time because we have to re-find the plant, then check all possible species
that the plant could be, and then agree on a final decision. While checking we
were going off trail into gaps looking for young leaves like usual. What I mean when I say "like usual" is when we are off trail we find new species, then we spend a
long time checking to make sure it really is a new species. While off the trail we had
lunch and had to wait out a small rain shower under our umbrellas. In all,
today turned out to be really productive. We found three new Inga, 24
herbivores, and collected 30 chemistry samples. That is the most chemistry samples we
have ever collected. As a result of our productivity we had to leave right
after dinner to finish and even then it took us almost to lights out.
I saw some
really cool caterpillars today. I think they are my new favorite. The first one
is light green with a blue x on its back and white spikes. The second one is black
and white with really neat spikes. The second one also had hot pink feet, which
I thought was a very fashionable color combo. I also found a pink centipede. It has pink
spots that look a little like hearts. Isn't it just awesome that
there are pink creepy crawly bugs out in the world? Besides the caterpillars we
saw another group of wooly monkeys. I think we see the wooly monkeys, and in
general all the monkeys, as much as the primatologists that are following the
monkeys. Tonight we, (M J, M, Z, S, and I) are going to try to watch
the meteor shower at midnight. I hope the sky remains clear because I would really
enjoy watching it.
I love those caterpillars!! So cool!!
