In The Field

In the field my team and I walk very slowly along the trails looking at all of the plants, trying to find the species we want with young leaves. Young leaves are not green like in the temperate zones. The young leaves can be pink, white, red, salmon, very pale green, or purple. While walking we will usually see cool insects, fungi, and lots and lots of spiders. Sometimes we will hear monkeys following us in the tree tops, or hear animals running from us. The trails are always muddy. If it rained at all the night before we will be walking through muddy puddles all day. Some trails have stepping stones, but most don't. The forest is always trying to reclaim the trails. We will come to bridges that are only a log with a rope to cross deep streams. The shallow streams we generally just have to cross  without a bridge because there shouldn't be any caiman or anacondas in them.  So, in general, this what I do in the field.
This is what the standard trail looks like.
