Last night it rained a ton. Like the annual rainfall
Utah sees all in one night, and that was considered regular rain. Wow. That made all
the trails really wet. And it made all the streams and creeks rise. The
trail we did was flooded by two big inlet/streams. So we waded across the logs
using a stick to find out where the log was because you couldn't see it. At the very end of the
first major log I lost my footing (because the log was barely as wide
as my foot) and went in. My head stayed out of the water, but I did have to tread
and swim a little to get back to the log and out of the water. The water was
cold! But, I was perfectly safe the whole time so no worries. We
then crossed another stream, no one went swimming that time. Most of the trail
was swamp. By swamp I mean under at least two inches of water, often more than a foot
of water. It was very exciting. Oh for wildlife count I saw five frogs, two
skinks, two lizards, three different kinds of monkeys, some little guppy fish,
and a tortoise. It is turning out to be a fun and adventuresome experience!
Where is the trail? (Hint: I'm standing on the log right now.)
This is M.N. and I using sticks to feel for the log in front if us.
M.N. found the trail and I have just reached the narrowest point of the log.
This is me at the deepest point, mere moments before I fell in.
This is my professor. (I'm in the background dripping wet.)
This is the second river we crossed.
Sounds like you really are having great adventures!!!
