On the second day of exploring only one of team members went
with me. We started our day eating papaya and chirimoya that we got from the
fruit market. I like papaya a lot. It is not too sweet or too sour. The
chirimoya was to sweet for me. I enjoyed the first few bites then was overwhelmed by how sweet it was. After breakfast we went to church. It was great
because a foreign exchange student was able to direct us to the best places to
visit and what order to do it. So we went to La Basilica. La Basilica is a
gothic style church that was built in the 1800s. My team member and I decided
we wanted to go to the very top of the
church. So we spent the rest of the day exploring and climbing to the highest
point of the church. I found the heights no problem, but majority of the people
found the heights to be terrifying. At the highest point we were about 80 meters up, or about 240 feet. The stained glass windows were
absolutely beautiful. I thought the gargoyles to be silly because they are birds of the Galapagos Islands. The view
was worth the climb. You could see most of Quito sprawling over the mountains
in all the vibrant South American colors surrounded by jungle green. It was
picturesque, so I of course took multiple pictures. It was a very enjoyable day.
