Cool Things from Lago Trail

Each day we pick a different trail to search for Inga, the plant we are studying. One trail is called lago, which means lake. We did only the first half of the trail this day. I saw lots of butterflies, spiders, and caterpillars.  While identifying a plant I was able to see a tambourine monkey.  It sat still for only long enough to look at us then carry on its way.  I had no idea what kind of monkey it was until I was able to ask a primatologist at the station. Later on when it was snack time we saw a frog. We can touch all leaf frogs if we do not have insect repellent on our hands. Insect repellent kills the frogs, and leaf frogs are not poisonous. Right next to the frog was some really rare fungi. It only stays fully expanded and pretty for about 24 hours. I have no idea what kind of fungi it is, I just thought it was amazing. At the very end of the day I saw a wonderful cloud of butterflies. It was amazing to be able to get within two feet of the group. I love butterflies!
